HBOTT – On-the-Job Training

Healthcare Biomanufacturing Occupational & Technology Training (HBOTT)

CareerSource North Central Florida is partnering with local businesses to provide on-the-job-training (OJT) opportunities through a new Healthcare Biomanufacturing Occupational and Technology Training Program (HBOTT). This program is made possible through a competitive grant, recently awarded to the Alachua Bradford Regional Workforce Board, from the United States Department of Labor for approximately $5 million, which can be implemented over the next four years.

Funding for this program comes from H1B visa fees collected from employers hiring foreign workers. HBOTT encourages employers to hire and train the talent in our region for the employer’s specific needs. Employers are required to hire and train the unemployed adults and retain them in employment after the HBOTT funded OJT period ends. It is anticipated that this program will provide more than 200 unemployed people in our region with new employment opportunities.

Ideal program applicants (job seekers) for this initiative will have a significant base of experience and education to support a rapid transition to the selected occupation. The OJT will be for occupations in-demand that are approved for H-1B Visas. Trainees will have at minimum a high school diploma, and most will have post-secondary education or vocational skills credentials. The program is also designed to provide, as necessary, short-term specialized skills upgrading in the selected industries to build a knowledge and competency base that will complement OJT opportunities.
